James Wright was recovering from an illness in England when his doctor advised that he emigrate to New South Wales for his health.
In 1835, he purchased a block of land along the banks of Murrumbidgee alongside his friend John Lanyon and brother, William and they were allocated convicts to farm the land.
Tragedy soon struck, when Lanyon had to return to England, and Wright’s brother was killed in a shooting accident. Combined with drought and economic depression, Wright was left with the daunting task of working the property all on his own. Uncover more of this fascinating story...
