Step into the story at Lanyon Homestead and back to a time before the nation's capital. Discover the fascinating stories of the families that lived and worked here.
This tour allows you to get the best possible experience at Lanyon, in the COVID-19 era. Our socially-distanced tour takes the group on a guided and informative walk around the precinct - including the archaeological sites and our historic outbuildings.
You can take a virtual tour of the main house using our digital interpretation content on an iPad.
After your tour, you can discover the Convict Barn, and explore the stunning gardens that make Lanyon Homestead the gem of Canberra’s history.
Due to social distancing requirements, we are unable to open the main homestead for guided tours at the moment. As part of this outdoor tour, we will give every tour participant a free pass for a guided house tour once restrictions are lifted.
Lanyon Homestead sits at the heart of a landscape of great natural beauty. Before or after your guided tour, you can share a meal or light refreshment in The Barracks Café overlooking the Murrumbidgee river, Namadgi National Park and the Brindabella Ranges. Book ahead to avoid disappointment with COVID limitations in the cafe - call Owen on 02 6237 5268 or book online here.
You can also have a picnic in the gardens, and our café can cater for small groups with a hamper. Bookings required.
Note, mobile phone reception is occasionally patchy at Lanyon so please book your ticket before arrive. Bookings close 15 minutes before each tour.
ACT Historic Places acknowledges that Lanyon Homestead sits on land nurtured and managed for millennia by the Ngunnawal people. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.
